6 days / 372 miles / Surly Ogre

This was the first multi-day tour on my Surly Ogre which I had set up for road riding with 700x47c tires. Unfortunately, it rained for most of the trip and at one point on day 3 I was stuck on the side of the road by the Cannonsville Reservoir waiting for a storm to pass. On the 4th night while camping in the Texas Schoolhouse State Forest it was so wet that I woke to slugs covering the outside of my tent and even found a few inside my sandal that I had left next to the tent when I slipped them on to go take a pee in the middle of the night. That’s when I learned to bring my sandals inside the tent every night.

The route was very hilly down near the Catskills and the roads kept winding around as they followed the valleys along the reservoirs. Thus, the mileage per day was shorter than usual with the average only being 62 miles/day while I typically like to average at least 70 miles/day. Between the rain, hills, and winding roads it never felt like I was covering much ground each day.
